許淑淨在本屆奧運角逐舉重女子五十三公斤級，奧運開始的前三個星期，許淑淨卻因受傷一度害怕不能站上舞台，但最後以抓舉一○○公斤、挺舉一一二公斤、總和二一二公斤獲得金牌。
中國大陸選手黎雅君則是挺舉三次失敗，把冠軍讓給許淑淨。
許淑淨說，這也是她第一次參加開閉幕式，以往的國際綜合大型運動會，她賽前沒機會參加開幕，比完賽後隔幾天就回國了，這次是個難得的體驗。
